Rangi’s Hoof Wax has been specifically designed to enhance your ongoing protection and maintenance programme, while supporting healing in damaged hooves.
 
By sealing out bacteria, mud and water in winter and helping to moisturise the hooves in the dry conditions of summer, enabling the hooves to perform in New Zealand’s demanding conditions.

The anatomy of Rangi’s Hoof Wax:
 
Castor Oil Thick, protective oil; provides deep nourishment and helps prevent frog rot.
 
Coconut Oil Lightweight carrier oil; deeply penetrates the hoof wall to condition dry tissue.
 
Beeswax acts as a hard but flexible protectant. It seals out excessive environmental moisture (like mud, urine and wet grass) while locking in the hoof’s natural internal moisture. Unlike petroleum bases it still allows the hoof wall to breathe and won’t turn into a greasy mess in the summer heat.
 
UMF 20+ Manuka Honey Premium medical-grade honey; extremely strong natural antibacterial agent that draws out infection.
 
Tea Tree Oil is a heavy hitter that disinfects and sanitizes old nail holes, cracks and the frog grooves. Hoof issues like thrush (affecting the frog) and white line disease (affecting the hoof wall junction) are caused by anaerobic bacteria and opportunistic fungi that thrive in oxygen deprived and damp environments, Tea Tree oil helps to destroy these pathogens.
 
Eucalyptus Oil antimicrobial & antifungal defence for hooves exposed to wet pastures or soiled stalls easily trap bacteria and fungi. Eucalyptus oil acts as a natural disinfectant to help prevent or manage conditions like thrush or white line disease.
 
Copper Sulphate Classic farrier treatment; powerful antifungal that kills anaerobic bacteria in deep cracks.
 
 
Safety and Application Notes
 
Keep Off the Coronary Band: Copper sulphate is highly caustic.
Applying this to the hairline (coronary band) or the sensitive skin of the pastern can cause severe chemical irritation, hair loss, and scabbing.
 
Do Not Coat the Entire Outer Wall: This mixture acts as a heavy water barrier. Slathering it over the entire outside of a healthy hoof can prevent the hoof from naturally absorbing environmental moisture (like morning dew).
 
Perfect for Cavities: The beeswax-to-oil ratio creates a thick, sticky paste, this makes it perfect for packing directly into abscess holes, old nail holes, or separated white lines to lock out mud and debris
 
 Rangi’s Hoof wax is to be used with regular maintenance, hoof care and Farrier management.
 
 
Preparation and Cleaning:
 
Pick and brush: Clean out all dirt, manure, and bedding from the sole, frog clefts, and white line areas using a hoof pick and stiff brush.
 
Wash and dry: Flush the areas with a safe antiseptic wash or clean water if needed, then towel or air-dry the foot completely. Trapped moisture under a seal will worsen anaerobic infections.
 
Debride: Have your farrier or vet open deep pockets, trim away loose necrotic frog tissue, or resect separated hoof wall to expose the microbes to oxygen.
 
Pack the wax: Once the liquid treatment absorbs or the area is dry, use an old toothbrush or your fingers to firmly press Rangi’s hoof wax into the white line separations, nail holes, chips, or deep frog sulci.
 
Keep the hoof dry for about 60minutes before returning to the pasture.
